The Global Abilities Foundation (GAF) seeks to increase cultural understanding and provide resources to help persons with disabilities become independent productive members of society across the globe. By providing education, assistive technology and adaptive tools, and instilling motivation by focusing on ability rather that disability, we empower individuals to excel in school, work, and social life.
We believe that we all have ability inside us, and by focusing on our abilities, we can achieve great things.
Global Abilities Founding Principles:
Research First – Conduct assessments to:
1) Identify the realities on the ground before we begin any intervention
2) Build on strengths and correct deficiencies in our projects
3) Help disseminate the knowledge we gain to a wider audience
Empowering from Within – Work within the cultural, political, religious, and other contexts of the communities we serve. Also, we include the persons we serve in the planning and implementation of all our projects.
Self-Sustaining Models – Create programs that can be sustained by the local communities and can be replicated in other communities that need our help.
